History of the Library

The East Cheyenne County Library District was formed in accordance with Referendum 1A on the ballot in the November election of 1996. The boundaries of the Library District correspond with the boundaries of Cheyenne County School District RE-5. The Library opened at the beginning of 1997. Shortly before, when the Town Complex was built, grant monies were received because a Library area has been included in the architect’s plans. That meant that the “home” for the new Library was in the Town Complex.

At the present time the Library operates on a mill levy from property taxes.
